Kung Fu Visualization

2016 Hong Kong, China

Collaborator: Jeffrey Shaw

Production: ALiVE/ACIM, School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong

For some years Sarah Kenderdine and Jeffrey Shaw have been working together with the International Guoshu Association (IGA) in Hong Kong to create art installations based on the motion capture (MOCAP) of Kung Fu performances by renowned Hong Kong martial arts masters. Kung Fu Visualization creates a panoptic virtual reality within which these Kung Fu masters’ performances are re-enacted and re-envisioned. Presented from six different points of view the visitor can select six different visualization styles that elucidate the underlying dynamics and aesthetics of the masters’ movements.
